WHY DO WE HATE THHE LAW?
Readers, have you ever thought about why we hate the law? Why do you hate the law? Why do we hate the Ten Commandments? If you had asked me why many Christians hate the Ten Commandments, my answer to you is that it offends them, or they get offended. They see their ugly face on the Ten Commandments mirror.
Without the law, I know nothing. Without the law I might elope with somebody’s wife and feel nothing about it, and you might elope with somebody’s husband without guilt either. God has given us the Ten Commandments for a good reason. And here’s why I believe God gave us the Ten Commandments. He wants us to be perfect.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:48, "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Perfection is a lifetime effort, work, or struggle. We can achieve perfection only if we are obedient to His law. If we have tried our best to do His will and we still cannot achieve His standard of perfection, He will come down to our level and make us perfect, just like what He did to the one thief on the cross whom He had saved. Jesus made the thief on the cross perfect. He knows all of us. Make sure that we always present ourselves humbly before God.
The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 7:12, “Therefore the law [is] holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.”
In Ephesians 2:8-9 Paul wrote, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Here Paul says that we are saved through faith in Jesus, and not by following the law or work. What did the apostle James say? “Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 2:17.
Readers, what does it mean when we say that we have faith in Jesus? What does it mean when we say that we have faith in God the Father? If we say that we have faith in Jesus but refuse to do what He wants us to do is that proof that we have faith in Jesus? If we say that we have faith in God the Father but refuse to do what He tells us to do is that proof that we have faith in God the Father? No. I am sure that Paul has to show proof that he has faith in Jesus that Jesus can or will accept. What is it that Jesus wants us to do for Him to show that we have faith in Him?
Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments”. John 14:15. If we have not done that, keep His commandments, we have no proof that we have faith in Jesus, just empty talk, that’s all. If we claim that we have faith in God the Father, where is the proof? God the Father said, “but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.” Exodus 20:6. Have we kept His commandments? If we have not, where is the proof that we have faith in God the Father?
I know why we hate His Ten Commandments. Because Satan hates His commandments.
Revelation 20:12-13 states, “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is [the Book] of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.” None will be judged by their faith, none!
Finally, let us always carry the Ten Commandments mirror with us to remind us that there is still plenty of work to be done before Jesus returns. May God help us.
