COVENANT

Today I want to write a little bit about what a covenant is. A covenant, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, is a formal agreement or promise between two or more people. It is similar to a contract.

Do we have a covenant with God? Yes, we do. When we are baptized, we "signed" a contract with Jesus. We promise that we will do certain things for Him, and He promises that He will do certain things for us. That is what baptism implies or means. Agree?

My theory about baptism is not entirely new if you understand the reason why we are being baptized. Baptism has a purpose. Baptism is not a show to make the preacher look good. Baptism is our commitment to God! It is a contract between the person who is being baptized and God. Baptism should never be taken lightly, never! Does baptism mean that we are born again? No, not necessarily. A born-again person is a changed individual, a different or a new person.

Baptism doesn't guarantee anything. What are the terms of the baptism contract? Do people who are being baptized know about the condition or terms of baptism? The terms of the baptism contract are important in baptism. They are written in the Bible.

Baptism is serious business, not a show! It is a commitment. Read your Bible carefully so you can know the terms of baptism. When we accept the contract with Jesus, we agree that we will love Him. This is a term of the contract. When we accept the contract we agree that we will be faithful to Him. This is another term of the contract. When we accept the contract we agree that we will be obedient to Him. When we accept the contract we agree that we will follow Him, and do what He wants us to do for Him.  In return, He promises that He will give us eternal life in Heaven, no more tears, no more deaths, and no more suffering. Nothing but happiness!

Yes, nothing but happiness if we can complete our part of the agreement successfully.

Nothing but happiness, if Satan is not successful in confusing and deceiving us.

But Satan, God’s worst enemy, is determined to confuse us all.  Satan works 24/7/365 to make sure that we will be next to Satan when Jesus returns. He wants us all in hell with him before or after we are baptized!

Let me write a summary of what Jesus expects from us. First of all, Jesus wants us to love and be faithful to Him. That is number one. But that’s not all. He also expects us to be obedient to Him, unlike Adam and Eve and

Satan.

Jesus said in John 10:27, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

Follow Me means that we do what He wants us to do. We do not do our will, but we do His will. In other words, He wants us to give up and sacrifice our will for His will. An example of this is when Abraham sacrificed his son Isaac for God. Nothing is easy if we want to get eternal life.
I have no words to fully describe the awe-inspiring vision of Heaven that He promises to give to us in exchange for the unworthy value of the things that we have done for Him.

Jesus said in John 14:15, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

Are we keeping His commandments? No, we are not.

According to John 14:15, we do not love Him if we do not keep His commandments. Are we obedient to Him? No, we are not. Do we follow Him? No, we do not. We follow our preacher. Are we faithful to Him? No, we are not. Do we do what Jesus wants us to do? No, we do not!

Congratulations, Satan has just won!
