DID JESUS DIE FOR OUR SIN?
While hanging on the cross, Jesus says "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. And they divided His garments and cast lots.” Luke 23:34. Readers, do you remember this last statement from Jesus when He asked the Father to forgive the sins of those who crucified Him? I am sure you do if you have read Luke 23:34. Jesus has forgiven the sin of those who have crucified Him, because they do not know what they do. However, can you find a verse in the Bible where Jesus said that He died to pay for our sin, the sin of Christians who have humiliated Him; Christians who served Paul and abolished all of His commandments; Christians who have betrayed and back-stabbed Jesus whom they say had died to pay for their sin? No, you will find not one. Why? Because they know what they are doing. Their bad intention is to avoid compliance with and not do anything that Jesus wants them to do. Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27. Jesus did not say My sheep hear Paul’s voice and they follow Paul or any of His other disciples. Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27. Jesus has no sheep except a few. If we are following Paul we are taking a huge risk! Why? Because no one can be saved if they are living in sin, none! He was called but not chosen. Faith without work means living in sin. Living without following His Commandments means death. Look here, Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, `Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'” Matthew 7:21-23. Jesus rejected these men/women of great faith not because of lack of faith, but because they were living in sin. They practice lawlessness. Why could someone who lives in sin perform miracles, you ask? My answer is with the help of Satan. The devil can perform miracles too, and not only Jesus.
How about the thief on the cross, you ask? What about the thief on the cross? Jesus saved him because he is no longer living in sin on the cross. He was living in sin, but when he surrendered himself to Jesus all his past sins have been instantly forgiven. He is no longer living in sin when Jesus saved him. That’s the big difference between the thief on the cross and the majority of Christians who have forsaken and betrayed Jesus. And so brothers and sisters, whether Jesus has died to pay for our sins or not doesn’t matter. What matters is whether or not we are living in sin. Are we in violation of God’s laws and commandments? If we are, then we are living in sin! Jesus’ death on the cross is not going to save us if we are living in sin.
