THE LAST SUPPER
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke [it], and gave [it] to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is My body."Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave [it] to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you."For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. "But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom." (Matthew 26:26-29)
When we offended someone, Jesus sees that as a sin. And if we have not reconciled with the party whom we have offended, that sin is not forgiven, cancelled, or even reduced even though the Bible said that Jesus has died for our sins. The logic is that Jesus cannot contradict Himself in the same Bible. I want to make it clear, and that is that Jesus cannot contradict Himself in the same Book! If we believe that Jesus said in Matthew 26 that Jesus has died for the cancellation of our sins, we are wrong. We have not read all that Jesus said in the law textbook - The Bible. Therefore, the belief that we can no longer sin after Jesus died on the cross is hogwash or nonsense!
While in the upper room during the Last Supper, Jesus “rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe [them] with the towel with which He was girded. Then He came to Simon Peter. And [Peter] said to Him, "Lord, are You washing my feet?"Jesus answered and said to him, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this. Peter said to Him, "You shall never wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me." Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also [my] hands and [my] head!" Jesus said to him, "He who is bathed needs only to wash [his] feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you. "For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, "You are not all clean. "So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?" You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for [so] I am. " If I then, [your] Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet." For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you." Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him." If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” (John 13:4-17).
I believe that the example of foot-washing is the example that God the Father wants Jesus to convey to us - wash one another’s feet. The ordinance of foot-washing, or the Ordinance of Humility, is to seek reconciliation with another member before the communion - The Lord’s Supper. That is good, but that's is not the primary reason why the Lord wants us to follow His example. That is good, but not good enough! He wants us to follow His example of foot-washing because we are obedient to Him. If we are not obedient to Him, any example that He gives us, or any teaching that He teaches us is worthless. Look, our church do not do the foot-washing anymore for a long time. If I have offended a brother, how can I reconcile with a brother through foot-washing? There is no more foot-washing. I can't, right? But if I am obedient to Him, I will and I can reconcile with my brother according to Matthew 5:23-24. And when we do that, we can then participate in the Lord’s Supper with a clear and clean conscience.
God bless!
