SALVATION DELAYED

Today I want to talk about a new topic - salvation delayed. What is salvation delayed? Salvation delayed is when we believe that we are saved but our salvation is postponed indefinitely. It is based on salvation by grace and not work.

Jesus said in Luke 10:25-37 that we should work if we want to be saved and get eternal life. According to Jesus eternal life must be earned. History tells us that Adam and Eve got their eternal life for free without work. We know that Lucifer also got his eternal life for free without work. We have no record that shows that God made them work first before they get eternal life. What did they do with their free gifts? They waste them! Easy come easy go. I believe that was the reason why God makes us work first before we can get eternal life. We do not appreciate free gifts. That is a fact.

Eternal life is not cheap. Eternal life is expensive. If preachers tell people that eternal life is expensive, very expensive, who can afford eternal life except the very rich? Who wants to buy eternal life from the preachers when they cannot pay? And we know that preachers have to make a decent income too. They have a family to raise. They have a mortgage or rent to pay each month. Their children want to drive in a nice car. They want to live in a decent home. And school tuition is high. It’s nothing but migraine headache.

So how can they come up with the money each month? Here’s is how I believe they do it. They sell God’s promise of eternal life at a big discount. They could never sell eternal life at its market value. Why? They cannot find buyers who have the money to buy them. And so they sell eternal life at a huge discount. What is the discounted price? The discounted price is grace. It costs nothing, not a penny. And not only the price is nothing, but they also entertain their buyers with loud music, food, and drinks.

Read this: “And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading [of it]?" So he answered and said, "`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and `your neighbor as yourself.'" And He said to him, "You have answered rightly; do this and you will live." But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Then Jesus answered and said: "A certain [man] went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded [him], and departed, leaving [him] half dead. "Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. "Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. "But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. "So he went to [him] and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. "On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave [them] to the innkeeper, and said to him, `Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.' "So which of these three do you think was a neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?" And he said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."  Jesus told the lawyer to WORK! GO WORK!

But what did Paul say? “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9. Paul’s teaching is contrary to Jesus’ teachings. I believe that if we believe that we are saved by grace our salvation is put on hold indefinitely!
