TWO LAWS OF SALVATION

In Luke 10:25-37 a lawyer asked Jesus, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading [of it]?" So he answered and said, "`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and `your neighbor as yourself.'"

If the lawyer had asked us, Mr. Christian, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? What shall we say, ask your mother? Ask your preacher? Or ask your Bible teacher? That would not be smart, would it? Why? Because our mother, if she is one of those Christians, your Bible teacher, or your preacher knows nothing about the law. They put God’s laws in the septic tank under their home.

Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading [of it]?" Do you know why Jesus asked him what is written in the law? He could have asked him have you asked your mother, or your father, or your preacher, or your Bible teacher? No, He did not! Instead, He asked him what does the law says?

Do you know why? Because Jesus put the law above everybody else. Nobody is above the law. His laws are sacred! And He is holy. But what did we do with Him and His laws? We flushed them in the toilet. Have we no fear of Him? Have we no fear of the Lord?

The lawyer then said, "`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and `your neighbor as yourself.'"  Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."  Jesus told the lawyer to WORK if He wants to earn eternal life! He tells you and me also to WORK if we want eternal life.

There are two parts of the law. "`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and `your neighbor as yourself.'"

Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15

Do we keep His commandments? No, we do not. We do not love Him. NO, we do not! We love Him only with our lips, and nothing more. That’s the first part of the law.

The second part of the law says that we should love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Love involves work, whether we love our God or whether we love our neighbor. How on earth can we love God and love our neighbor when we don’t believe in work that can save us? We believe only in the "grace" that can save us. What motivates us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves when we don’t believe in work that will save us? Don’t we know that love is work?

We know that grace is not our part or our job. Grace comes from God. So we let the poor, the needy, and the sick wait for God’s grace to give them any help? We won’t go out and offer any help because the work that we do to help them cannot save us? Because we believe that we are saved by grace. Are we giving God the job to take care of them, the unfortunates, the sick, and the poor, and not us? Where is the good Samaritan in us? Don't we have a better reason to believe that we are saved by our works and not by grace? That belief will motivate us to work harder each day to love God and our neighbor as we love ourselves. That is what the law wants us to do. And that is how we can earn God's grace.

But Paul says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.

Paul’s teaching is contradictory to Jesus’ teachings. Read again Luke 10:25-37

Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." John 10:27.

Do we hear His voice? Do we follow Him? Or do we follow ourselves?

Don't let the devil take our attention away from listening to His voice. GB.
