HARMONY

God loves harmony. His Laws are in harmony with each other. He wants us to live in harmony with Him. He wants us to live in harmony with His Laws. And He wants us to live in harmony with each other. That was the primary reason why He gave Moses His Laws - The Ten Commandments, and His other commandments found in the Torah so that we could live in harmony with Him and with each other. And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading [of it]?" So he answered and said, "`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and `your neighbor as yourself.'" And He said to him, "You have answered rightly; do this and you will live." Luke 19:25-28. Jesus said to the lawyer and to us that we should love Him with all our hearts, with all our souls, with all our strength, and with all our minds, and love our neighbor as ourselves so we can inherit eternal life. What He told us to do is enough for us to earn His grace. There is no need to sugarcoat evil with grace. And there is no need for us to play dumb with the Lord that we are helpless.  Luke 19:25-28 is a recap of the Ten Commandments, as you can see. It is a shorter version of the Ten Commandments that Moses gave to the Israelites. It lists our moral obligations toward God and toward our neighbors. In Exodus 20:6 God the Father said that His mercy is upon those who love Him and keep His commandments. In John 14:15 God the Son said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments. Do we not understand what God the Father and God the Son had said? Both God the Father and God the Son told us to keep God's commandments! But we say that the Ten Commandments have been nailed on the cross? What has Jesus’ crucifixion to do with the Ten Commandments that YHWH gave to Moses ages ago? And what’s wrong with the Ten Commandments? The Ten Commandments is a detailed version of what Jesus has told the lawyer, "`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and `your neighbor as yourself.'" That’s what the Ten Commandments are all about. Are we playing dumb again with God? God knows that we are playing dumb with Him. Don't we know that playing dumb with God is the equivalent of committing suicide? Look what happened to Adam and Ave. Look what happened to Lucifer and his angels. They knew that they were wrong but they wanted to test God's mercy by playing dumb with God. Do we think that we are smarter than God? God knows that we like to pretend and play dumb with Him by making "grace" excuses that the apostle Paul taught us. God the Father and God the Son said if we love God we must keep their Commandments. It is not optional. What did Satan say to Adam and Eve? Satan told them to ignore God's Commandments. And many Christians since Martin Luther listened to Satan and played dumb with God as if we are totally helpless. Keeping His commandments is what unites God's people and keeps us in harmony with God and with our neighbors. Keeping His commandments will show the whole world that we truly love Him and love our neighbors as we love ourselves. The Ten Commandments keep God's people together in their journey toward heaven. Why do we prefer to do things on our own separately outside of the Ten Commandments? Why? When we do things outside of His Commandments we see dissonance and not harmony; we see tensions, stress, and disunity. And that is what we see now in everyday life - conflicts and disharmony. And to make sure that we have disunity with God, the Inventor of Harmony, and tension and disunity with our fellow human beings, Satan and his angels worked overtime to persuade us to discard God’s Laws - the Ten Commandments, and he succeeded in tearing us apart. And we believe his deception, instead of God’s truth. Satan cleverly deceived us by persuading us to believe that after Jesus died on the cross the Ten Commandments that the Father gave to the Jews during their flight for freedom also died with Him on the cross. How about if Jesus has never died? Are we going to keep the Ten Commandments? I don't think we are. What excuses are we going to say then? Oh, the Ten Commandments are for the Jews? The Ten Commandments, as we all know, were the Father’s Commandments. And Jesus’ death, therefore, has nothing to do with the abolishment of the Ten Commandments. It was Satan's idea to scrap the Ten Commandments. In fact, I still believe that God gave us the Ten Commandments to unite us together in our journey toward heaven! They were also the Commandments that God the Father gave to the Jews to unite them in their fight for freedom from the slavery of King Pharaoh of ancient Egypt. God wants us to live in harmony with each other. God wants us to unite and live in peace! Harmony is of such importance in the eyes of God that He approved the action of Abraham and Sarah to let go or divorce Hagar for a cause other than adultery. But we refuse to live in harmony. We refuse to be governed by God’s Laws. We believe that we can govern ourselves with the laws that we have created for ourselves, and not under God’s Laws! But can we? No, we could not.
Have you heard the term irreconcilable differences as the cause frequently cited by couples who ask for a divorce? Often that is the only option left when couples get separated from each other, for the sake of harmony. “You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not commit adultery.' "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. "If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast [it] from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than for your whole body to be cast into hell. "And if your right-hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast [it] from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than for your whole body to be cast into hell. "Furthermore it has been said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' "But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.” Matthew 5:27-32.
Harmony is of such importance in the eyes of God that He approved the action of Abraham and Sarah to let go or divorce Hagar for a cause other than adultery. Here’s the first evidence that divorce is permitted in the Old Testament, where adultery is not present. Why? Because harmony is the goal of His laws. But if the man or woman repents and wishes to stay in the family, I believe that he or she should be given a chance to stay together. We should forgive, even in cases of adultery. Sometimes our best effort fails to work, like in the case of Sarah and Hagar. Here I believe God will approve fair separation for the sake of harmony, but not to find a younger and more gorgeous chick to replace the old woman.
When we read Matthew 5 we see that God wants us to live in harmony with each other, if that is still possible. That, Brothers and Sisters, is what the Ten Commandments are all about - live in harmony with God and live in harmony with each other. God doesn’t like to see us live in disharmony or discord and conflict.  I believe that's part of the reason why we have so many problems in the home and that is that we cannot live in harmony.
We are on our journey to heaven. Let us all travel together under one banner - The Ten Commandments!
