CAN WE BE PERFECT?

Jesus said, "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:48
Can we be perfect as humans? Can we be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect? I have thought about this for a long time. Can we be perfect, or can we not? Finally, I came to the conclusion that yes we can. Yes, we can. “Be perfect” is God’s clear order to us. And I  believe that He is not going to order us to do something that we cannot do. You can be perfect too. How do we do it? First, I want my readers to understand that becoming perfect is neither a simple nor an easy process. I believe the way that we can be perfect is to avoid sin. But we have to work hard if we want to avoid sin, and that is how we can achieve perfection - avoid sin. Sin is incompatible with God's perfection. God is perfect because He is blameless.

Job was also perfect because he was blameless in the eyes of God. And we know that Adam and Eve were perfect too before they violated God’s laws and fell into sin. So, what makes an individual imperfect? The answer is SIN. Sin makes us imperfect! What is sin? Sin is a transgression of His commandments and laws when we do things that He prohibits us from doing, whether at home, at work, in social groups, in church, or anywhere else. And Jesus tells us how we can do it if we understand His words.
"And if your right-hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast [it] from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than for your whole body to be cast into hell.“ Matthew 5:30
"And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast [it] from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.” Matthew 18:9

These are not hyperboles or exaggerations. He meant what He said. He wants us to know that sin is incompatible with Heaven. He wants us to understand that sin also hurts. He wants us to know that sin is a painful experience. He wants us to know that sin in one part of our body can spread to other parts of our body and finally kill us, like cancer. And before the diseased sinful part of our body kills us, he tells us to cut it off or pluck it out. Can you imagine how painful that procedure would be when there was no known anesthesia or painkiller during Jesus’ time? There was no anesthesia or painkiller when we cut part of a limb, or a hand, or remove an eye to numb the pain of sin. Would we still commit sin if we know that our hands would be chopped off, or our eyes plucked out without any painkiller or anesthesia? Jesus wants us to know that sin hurts. He wants us to know how severe the pain of sin is. He wants us to avoid sin at all costs. Matthew 5:30; Matthew 18:8-9.
Jesus said in Matthew 13:41-42, "The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

"But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matthew 8:12
`And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' Matthew 25:30
Have you read testimonies from witnesses who saw criminals who died in the electric chair? Compare that to sinners who will die in God’s oven as described in Matthew 13:42. The Bible says that you will hear their wailing and gnashing of teeth. That is the pain of sin! And God wants us to avoid the pain of sin through WORK, and not through GRACE! Why not grace? Because grace is nothing but a sedative for sin. It numbs the pain of sin. We cannot experience the pain of sin through grace. That’s all that grace does to us, it numbs the pain of sin. Many people continue to live in sin until they die because they do not feel the pain of sin. Jesus wants us to feel or experience the pain of sin.

And that was exactly the reason why I believe He said, "And if your right-hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast [it] from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than for your whole body to be cast into hell.“ Matthew 5:30
"And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast [it] from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.” Matthew 18:9
When we are under “grace”, we will continue to live in sin until we die, because we don’t feel the pain of sin. But the pain of sin will avoid us to sin. And if we can avoid sin, I believe that we can be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect. May God help us all to do His will from now on.
