DO YOU LOVE YOUR GOD?

Jesus said, “And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This [is] the first commandment. And the second, like [it, is] this: `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."  Mark 12:30-31.

The first part of the Law says, “And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.”

The second part of the Law says, `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'

Many Christians violated one or both of these laws. Do we know what we should do when we violated His laws? Jesus gave us the solution.

Part of the solution is found in the Lord’s Prayer. The other part of the solution is found in the Ten Commandments and in Jesus’ teaching.

Let us start with the first part of the Law - Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.

How do we love our God with all our strength? Jesus said in John 14:15,21,23,24 - "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."  "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. "He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.”

Do we know what He meant when He said: “Keep My commandments”.

He was referring to the Ten Commandments in the Bible. He was talking about the Torah.

Here is a summary of the Ten Commandments -
1. Thou shalt have no other Gods before Me.

2. Honor thy father and mother.

3. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.

5. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

6. Thou shalt not kill.

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

8. Thou shalt not steal.

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

10. Thou shalt not covet.

Do you see anything there that you don’t like? If you do, that’s all right. Find another religion that you like. Why? James 2:10 says, “For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one [point], he is guilty of all.” What did you say? You don’t like that either? Fine, go and look for a different religion that you like, but don’t mess with the Bible, unless you wrote the Bible.

In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught us to ask Him for the forgiveness of our sins if we have violated His Law, as we have also forgiven others who have offended us. In addition, He also tells us what to do if we have offended our brother, "Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift”. Matthew 5:23-24. These are the solutions for sins that Jesus gave us. There is no need to abolish His Laws as the apostle Paul has suggested.

Now,  the second part of the Law says, `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' This is not easy to do because often we covet what our neighbor has. We want to have our neighbor’s wife or husband. We want to abandon our wives and children for another woman who is younger or prettier than our wives. I have seen instances like these occurring in many homes. Medical assistants, nurses, and even physical therapists are known to break the marriages and homes of even the most faithful of Christians.

Be on guard, Satan is determined to drag us all with him to hellBe ready to repent. As long as we can repent, there is nothing that Satan can do to harm us.
