WHEN WILL THE LAW BE FULFILLED?
Jesus said, “"For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one title will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.” Matthew 5:18. Do you know what Jesus meant when He said till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one title will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled? This can take place only when the following law has become a reality, "`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is [the] first and great commandment. And [the] second [is] like it: `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 22:37-40. That, I believe, was the main reason why He gave us the law, so we will love the LORD our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind, and love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
How can we love our God? Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.” John 14:15,21,23,24.
Do we keep His commandments? No, we don’t. We do not love Him. We love Paul. We keep Paul’s “Grace” commandments because Paul is a lawyer, and Jesus is just a carpenter, right? We abolished God’s commandments because God is a carpenter, and Paul is a lawyer, isn’t that right? We are more respectful of lawyers than of carpenters, isn’t that right too?
How can we love our neighbor as we love ourselves? This is not easy. Let’s see what the Bible says about our neighbors. "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that [is] your neighbor's." Exodus 20:17.
What is coveting? The dictionary defines coveting as yearning to possess or to have something.
When I heard the word coveting, the first thing that occurred in my mind was the seducers and homewreckers. I have seen a lot of homewreckers in my family and in the families of others, friends, and neighbors. Dentists, pastors, nurses, salesmen, medical assistants, doctors, hairdressers, physical therapists, they all want to have a new partner and a better life.
When will Matthew 5:18 be fulfilled? Matthew 22:37-40 is not fulfilled yet. We must continue to keep the law because it is a reminder to all of us that the world is still evil. Jesus said in John 7:7, "The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil."
