WHOM DO YOU BELIEVE?
1. Jesus said, "I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” John 10:9. Do you believe what Jesus said?
2. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6. Do you believe what Jesus said?
3. Jesus said, "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:48. Do you believe that we should be perfect? Do you believe that we can be perfect?
4. A Torah lawyer asked Jesus,
"Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading [of it]?" So he answered and said, "`You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and `your neighbor as yourself.'" And He said to him, "You have answered rightly; do this and you will live." Luke 10:25-28.
"On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 22:40. Do you believe that what Jesus said in Luke 10:25-28 and Matthew 22:40 are true?
5. Do you believe that if the lawyer does what Jesus had told him to do he can go to heaven?
6. Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. "He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.” John 14:15,21,23,24. Do you believe that what Jesus said is true?
Here are Paul’s words.
7. Paul said we are saved by faith, and not work. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9. Do you believe what Paul said is true?
8. Paul predicts that the time will come when people are no longer interested in the truth, but they will look for teachers who can tickle their itching ears, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, [because] they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn [their] ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4. Do you believe in Paul’s prediction?
In summary, Jesus said to the Torah scholar and to us that in order to inherit eternal life we shall love the LORD our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it is this: We shall love our neighbor as we love ourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:30-31. Jesus said to receive salvation we have to work. Paul, on the other hand, says that to receive salvation we have to do nothing, just have “faith”.
Whom do we believe, Jesus or Paul, the people pleaser? Work or do nothing are opposites. Both cannot be true.
