QUIT BLAMING THE DEVIL; BLAME OUR BAD HABITS.
People who have the bad habits of stealing cars, for instance, often end up in jail or get shot or killed by the police. And when they get killed, or shot, they or their family usually blame the police, and they rarely blame themselves. In Psychology, it is called projection. We Christians do this all the time, blaming the devil for our bad habits. "The devil made me do it", we say. We project to the devil our bad habits instead of blaming ourselves. Blaming others for their bad habits began with Adam and Eve. They blame their act of disobedience to the serpent. They could have said to the serpent "NO, WE ARE NOT GOING TO DO IT". But they did it anyway and blamed the serpent. And we have acquired that bad habit of projection since we were at a young age.
What can we do with the bad habits that we have acquired and reinforced for many decades? I have news for you - nothing or very little, unless we are willing to admit that we are wrong, and repent. We can suppress them and keep them in remission, like what many people do. Or they can relapse, like what happened to my church pastor, his new wife, and many others.
Our bad habits will stay in our memory until we become totally senile. Under the right conditions, the bad habits that we have suppressed for years or decades may resurface. There is no guarantee that one or more of our bad habits will not relapse unless we are 101 years old, or around that age. That's when most people become forgetful or senile.
The Apostle Paul, as you know, has problems with getting rid of his bad habits. He said, "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?" Roman 7:24. He was talking about his present problem in the present tense. Who will rescue me, he asked? I think while he is alive he can rescue himself, with the help of God, and get rid of the bad habits from his memory.
But what did Paul do? Instead of abandoning his bad habits, he changed God's law. And everybody follows him and abolished God's law everywhere in the world!.
Only God can totally erase the memory of our bad habits from our brains. Until then, good luck!
Do you think you have succeeded in suppressing your bad habits - SIN? Flushing bad habits from our memory is not as easy as flushing the toilet.
In John 3, Jesus said to Nicodemus, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Do you know why Jesus said that? Because He knows that adults have plenty of bad habits that they keep for years that they cannot get rid of.
In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Do you know why we need to be born again and be like little children? Because little children have no bad habits in their memory unlike us adults! Be careful what we put into our memory. Why? Because deleting the memory of bad habits from our brain is very HARD! They have become part of us. We own them. Some people cannot change their bad habits. They have to be electrocuted, and that is just too bad.
