MARTYRS

John the Apostle wrote, “When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both [the number of] their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they [were], was completed.” Revelation 6:9-11.

Brothers and Sisters, the man Jesus was crucified as a martyr, but not in the same sense as the other martyrs. He had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. Jesus told John the Apostle, "I am the Alpha and the Omega, [the] Beginning and [the] End," says the Lord, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." Revelation 1:8. Jesus also said to the Apostle John during the vision, "I [am] He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” Revelation 1:18. Do you know what “I am alive forevermore" means? To me it means that Jesus has always lived. He has never died. Why? Because He said that “I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” Revelation 1:18. Jesus’ death is not the same as ours. "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father." John 10:17-18.

And Jesus has never said that He died to redeem our sin. Judas Iscariot or the other disciples may have said so, but not Jesus. The martyrs who died have never claimed that they died to pay for our sin, never. And Jesus Himself has never said that He died to pay for our sin. We have to pay for our sin, and no one else! Will martyrdom pay for our sin? NO! How do I know it? Because HELL is the punishment for sinners! I call it HELL, and not “grace”. Hell is evidence that no one has paid for our sins, no one! We have to pay for our sins.

Jesus said, "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28.

Finally, Jesus said, "Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” Matthew 5:23-24. A gift to the altar is normally a gift for the atonement of our sin. And Jesus refused to accept that gift for the atonement of our sin before we reconciled with our brother.
