SERVING TWO MASTERS

Jesus said, "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:24. Anytime when I read this text I am reminded of the story of the prophet Abraham and his two masters, Sarah and Hagar. The story about Abraham is described in Genesis, starting in Genesis 14. You can read the next five or six chapters until you find the story about Abraham sacrificing his son Isaac for God. You will find that the only time when Abraham has peace at home is when he sent Hagar to live apart from them. Otherwise, the three, Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar cannot live harmoniously together under one roof when Abraham is serving two masters. What was the issue? I believe that Hagar believes that her children will inherit God's promises, and Sarah believes that her descendants will inherit God’ promises to Abraham. The Muslims believe that they are the descendants of Ishmael, and the Christians believe that Jesus comes from the descendants of Isaac. That’s why Christians worship Jesus whom they say has died to pay for their sins.
Muslims greatly honor their prophet Muhammad whom they said was the descendant of Ishmael, and Christians also honor Jesus, a descendant of Isaac, whom they say has died to pay for their sins until the apostle Paul comes along. After that time Christians totally abandoned Jesus whom they say has died to pay for their sins, and encouraged Christians to live in sin under grace. Christians abolished all of God’s commandments except the practice of paying ties and offerings. Christians say that they love Jesus who has died to pay for their sins, but they are having daily affairs with Paul to cheat Jesus.
