Jesus said, “Why do you call Me `Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say?” Luke 6:46. Readers, Jesus asked us why do we call Him ‘Lord, Lord’, and not do the things that He told us to do? We do what the apostle Paul told us to do, don't we? Paul said, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9. Many, if not most Christians believe that they are saved by faith. They followed Paul, a human being. Are we, or are we not saved by faith? Or are we saved by works, doing the will of God the Father? Do we love Paul more than we love Jesus? Why?
Readers, do we know why Jesus said, why do we call Him ‘Lord, Lord’, and not do the things that He told us to do?” Because He wants us to do what He tells us to do. He wants us to do what God the Father has told us to do through Jesus Christ. He wants us to work for our eternal life.
But what do we do? NOTHING! Why? Because the apostle Paul says that we have to do nothing to be saved. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.
What else did Jesus say? Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15.
How do we keep His commandments, by doing His commandments, or by believing (faith) in His commandments? If we swore that we believe in His commandments, but if we don’t do what He tells us to do, WORK, we are liars. We are hypocrites. And you and I know that Jesus hates hypocrites and liars. Do you think that God will admit liars and hypocrites to heaven? Come on Bro, be serious.
So, what is the reason why we do not do what He tells us to do? Is it because we are deaf, and we don’t hear what He tells us to do, or is it because we don’t love Him?
Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15.
If we love Jesus, we do what Jesus tells us to do. Faith is not proof that we love Jesus. Why? Because the demons also have faith in Jesus. James 2:14. Good faith will lead to obedience. If we are not obedient to God, we have no faith in God.
