THE THIEF ON THE CROSS
The article that I want to write today is about the thief on the cross. “Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us." But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? "And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong." Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom." And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." Luke 23:39-43.
Readers, before I say much more about Luke 23:39-43 I want to assure you that the only thief on the cross that Jesus will save based on his faith is the thief described in Luke 23:39-43. No other thief will be saved, none. Why? Because the thief on the cross is dying. He has no time to repent. That’s why Jesus saved him before he died.
All thieves are not dying when they are caught. If he is not dying Jesus will tell the thief to REPENT or go serve his jail time. Jesus is not a preacher who makes money by selling lies. That is not the Jesus that I know. And that is not the Jesus that you want to know or trust! Jesus has to make a quick decision when the thief said to the other thief "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? "And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong." Then the thief said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom." The thief on the cross is dying. And Jesus saved the thief. Is Paul dying when he uses the thief on the cross excuse for killing innocent Christians? No. Are you dying today? If not, should you not first repent and then ask Jesus for forgiveness? Jesus is not our mama.
Saul has never repented. In Romans 7:12 Saul encouraged millions of Christians to ignore God’s law which he said [is] holy, and the commandment holy and just and good. Who can trust him? I think his mama will not trust him either. We cannot fool God the Father either. Adam and Eve tried once and God the Father kicked them out from their home immediately.
Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. “Matthew 7:21. Saul of Tarsus thinks that Jesus is His mama. The only way we can know for sure that our sins are forgiven is if we truly repent. How do we truly repent? Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.“ Matthew 7:21. Doing the will of God the Father is proof that we truly repent. What does Paul say?
In Ephesians 2:8-9 Saul says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.“ Paul is quoting not what the Prophet Abraham says. He is quoting a rare story from the thief on the cross. Believe, do nothing, and you will go to Heaven? Satan does the same thing. He also believes in God.
