FAITH AND OBEDIENCE
Tonight I am going to write on a subject that I feel many of us don’t clearly understand, faith and obedience.
Faith and obedience is one subject, not two. The reason why I say that faith and obedience is one subject is simple. How can you separate the last name from the first name of an individual and get the same individual or the same result? Faith and work go together. Work or obedience is the evidence of faith. Faith without work is incomplete or dead.
Saul of Tarsus has a different idea. He wrote, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.“ Ephesians 2:8-9. The only person in the Bible that Jesus saved by grace and no work was the thief on the cross. He did no work because he is hanging on the cross. He's dying. Or does Saul believe that everyone is saved by faith, grace, and no work? What did Jesus say? "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. "Many will say to Me in that day, `Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from Me, you evildoers!' Matthew 7:21-23.
Doing the will of Jesus’ Father is work, not faith. These people who called Jesus Lord, Lord, were all people of great faith who can cast out demons and do wonders in Jesus’ name, but Jesus chased them away, `I never knew you; depart from Me, you evildoers!” Jesus wants them to WORK and be obedience to the will of His Father!
Saul of Tarsus doesn’t want to obey or work, just have faith. He tried to separate faith from obedience based on the thief on the cross story who died at the end of the day. I have a very strong feeling that when Saul was alive he was an unreasonable anti-obedience individual until he died.
The apostle James said, “faith and no work is dead.” James 2:17,26.
